Natalie turned 13 months this past Sunday. The 2 of us went to York Beach. It was kind of cloudy and a bit chilly but a pretty nice day. She loves playing in the sand.
We have had a pretty busy month. The week after her birthday, we went up to Stonington, Maine to visit my family. My father's mother has a step brother, Ken, whose family lives there. A lot of my dad's side of the family go up and rent out motel rooms and stay from Saturday to Wednesday. We went up Friday with my parents to Freeport to help make the drive a little shorter. It is 6 hours from Dover, but 8 from Westmoreland. It is a very long drive.
We arrived in Stonington mid afternoon on Saturday. The first night that everybody arrives we always have a big spaghetti feed down by the motel. Here is Natalie and Dad have some quality time together.
That night there was a really pretty sunset. The motel is across the street from the ocean and the harbor. They have a small sitting area that we like to hang out in. Here she is with Grandma.
It is very picturesque here in Stonington. Quite often there are many 3-4 masted sail boats going through.
Here is the sitting area.
Here she is with my cousin Sharon. She really liked her. Sharon's youngest is 16 so it has been a while since she had babies.
Sunday, we went on a boat ride around the many islands in the harbor. Ken's son John and his grandson Derek took us out on their lobster boats. It was a beautiful day.
Pretty sailboat.
This is the granite quarry that they extract a lot of the stone that they use in many famous buildings. Some of it is even in Yankee Stadium.
Steaming back in this is the view of the land. Ken's mother's old house is the one in front of the church. I remember going to that house when I was a kid. She did not have indoor plumbing.
Cool wooden boat that we saw.
Here is a couple of the family members fishing and checking us out
It's a seal!!
Trust me it is a seal.
Sunday night we have a big lobster & steamer feed. There is always a big competition to see who can eat the most. Ken's grandson had a baby about a month after Natalie. Here he is with a t-shirt saying my daddy's a lobsterman.
Here she is looking oh so cute.
Here is a picture of all the lobsters. We had about 170 lbs of lobster. That is a lot of lobsters.
Yum!
Emory is a little bigger than Natalie. He was already walking but on those giant feet of his he could do pretty much anything. His hands are huge too.
There are the hands.
Emory and his mom.
Monday, dad had to leave early so that he could go back to work. I had a couple more days off so we stayed a little longer. We went out to a lake and had some fun there. The adults and older kids went on a tube ride that was really fun.
Tuesday morning we were heading out but before we did we went down to what we call the Point. This is down the street from where my uncle and aunt live. It is a really cool place.
Across the way is the quarry.
Here we are walking back up from the point. This is my absolute favorite spot in the world. Some day, I will own the house that looks down on this.
Here we are on the way back. We drove back to Freeport again to stay Tuesday night. The ride was still about 4 hours.
What a cutie!!
She did sleep a good part of the way in the truck.
The next weekend was our anniversary. Somehow Chris conviced me to enter a disc golf tournament on ur anniversary in Canterbury. We went up to Alton to visit his parents the night before and went out to dinner at Fratello's. We had called ahead for a place in line but when we got there we still had to wait about 20 minutes. Finally when we got seated they put us in the old bank vault. I have been to this place a couple of times but never realized it was an old bank. It was actually perfect for our anniversary. We went all out and got some good stuff. I have recently started to eat red meat again and decided to try the filet mignon. I really should not get these types of things. Previously when I did eat meat, steak just wasn't my thing. I like it but don't crave it. I ended up asking for A-1 to go with my steak. Oh well. Should have gotten the lobster mac and cheese instead.
This was the view from the table. It was a really pretty sunset that night too.
Here are the 4 girls that participated in the disc golf tournament. The two on the outside have done them before and are quite good. Jess next to me, is the girlfriend of Keith who plays with Chris. This was her first tournament as well. We both did pretty well for our first tournament. I actually won a shot of maple syrup.
So Chris had been having a lot of back problems this summer and one day rolled over to my side and realized that he rolled up. His side was super mushy and his feet were higher than his head. I found the receipt (yeah! me) and it was only bought in 2008. It is supposed to have a 15 year warranty. We contacted New England Furniture in Farmington where we purchased it and they ended up giving us a full refund. So we went full boar on the next bed. Here is where the bed used to go.
And here is the new bed. It is a King size and it is huge. We used to have a metal bed frame but I was concerned for Natalie when she started to walk and running into them so we splurged on a big person sleigh bed. It is so pretty. The bed is awesome. We went for the Serta IComfort. Much like a Tempurpedic. It is so comfortable.
The Friday before our anniversary, Chris had to do some work out on the boat so he decided to take Natalie with him. He put her in the back pack and put her life jacket on and away they went. She fell asleep and also had her arm out at one point to feel the wind. I think she had fun.
Later that day they had to go to the doctors. She ended up getting a wicked diaper rash that turned out to be a yeast infection. Yuck!! We are still dealing with it a bit. Even though she was in pain a bit from the rash, she is still having fun at the drs.
One day I came back from work to Natalie getting a bath on the porch. She loves bath time and it was a gorgeous day.
Here is Natalie pulling dvds out of the tv cabinet and flinging them at Rocky. He seems amused.
Natalie lounging on the new bed with her bottle.
Grandma Judy came over last Friday because Chris was in NY. She had a really good day with her. It was so nice that she could do that for us. I couldn't take the day off because I was all by myself at work.
Here we are geting ready to go outside so Rocky can use the bathroom. She just looked so darn cute in her jacket, I couldn't resist.
She has started to pull herself up on things like her crib rail. She will also take your hands and pull herself up. We have a table that moves pretty easily when she pushes it. She has started to push it around and walk with it. It is really fun to watch all these changes happening. They seem to be happening all really fast.
Life is good here at the Baker household. It is starting to slow down a bit as we don't have as much planned on the weekends which is nice. A bit cooler here now which is good too. We are all doing well and hope that September treats you well. See you next month.
